Lunar New Year @ SLAM

Happy Lunar New Year!

Lunar New Year is celebrated by billions of people worldwide and has been part of human tradition for at least 4,000 years; perhaps much longer. Lunar New Year is also sometimes referred to as Chinese New Year or Spring Festival. It is a celebration of the lunar calendar restarting and a new cycle of the moon beginning.

Since we live in the West and Lunar New Year is predominantly celebrated in the East, I didn’t find any celebrations happening in Saint Louis, however the Saint Louis Art Museum advertised live music and performances as well as encouraging viewing the Asian artwork on display. Any excuse to visit the art museum is a good one, so we spent a little time in the museum .

[Monet was white as bread but i still can’t not take a photo of this piece]

We didn’t stay long, about an hour. The festivities only went until 8 pm.

Once home we decided to watch a movie to end the evening. While trying to find something, we landed on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon [2000]. Seeing as it’s the Year of the Dragon, I thought it was a bit auspicious.

And, truly, it’s a masterpiece of cinema and very fitting for the time, as the name suggests.

We found Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on Tubi
